Wonders of Life x Zoo Leipzig | Creative Making Proposal

A BIT OF ART · WONDERS OF LIFE · PROPOSAL FOR ZOO LEIPZIG

Make the Wonders of Life at Zoo Leipzig

Make discovery something families can take home.

Turn a day of animal discovery into something families can make, understand and take home. This proposed creative-making range connects Zoo Leipzig's six worlds with hands-on learning, memorable keepsakes and an on-site personalisation experience.

Explore the partnership concept

A creative extension of the visit

A visit that keeps unfolding.

Zoo Leipzig invites families to explore nature through six immersive worlds, close animal encounters and playful learning. Wonders of Life can extend that experience beyond the habitat: each product begins with an animal or ecosystem, reveals one memorable idea about how life works, and ends with an object a visitor has made, worn or taken home.

The proposal combines a ready-now natural-history edit with products developed specifically for Zoo Leipzig and a co-branded maker experience. Together, they create an offer for family visits, zoo-shop gifting, Discovery Days, birthdays and educational programmes without losing the wonder, rigour or sense of place that makes the zoo distinctive.

Three ways to build the range

01 · Ready now

Start with discovery

Introduce playful natural-history products already listed by A Bit of Art. Glow, dress-up, plush and pocket-souvenir formats give families an immediate entry point while the exclusive range is developed.

02 · Made for Leipzig

Make the six worlds tangible

Create Wonders of Life kits around Zoo Leipzig's animals, six theme worlds and sensory learning. Every concept pairs a making action with an animal adaptation, habitat story or conservation prompt.

03 · Co-branded experience

Connect making with memory

Bring Wonders of Life and Zoo Leipzig together across packaging, story cards and an on-site Create Your Own Discovery offer, subject to brand, image, safety and operating approvals.

Ready-now attraction edit

A playful bridge from deep time to living worlds

Gondwanaland's journey through Earth's history gives this compact Deep Time Discoveries edit a credible place in the visitor story. The mix balances two tactile character souvenirs, an accessible badge-and-magnet format and a design-led gift for adult visitors.

Proposed concepts · Custom products for Zoo Leipzig

Six worlds, made by hand

These proposed Wonders of Life concepts translate recognisable Zoo Leipzig experiences into tactile activities. The final subjects, artwork, German copy, learning content, age grading, materials and packaging would be developed with the zoo's education, retail and brand teams.

Proposed concept

Six Worlds Discovery Scene Kit

Build a layered tabletop journey through Founder's Garden, Asia, Gondwanaland, Pongoland, Africa and South America. Children place animals into their habitats and finish the scene with a fold-out discovery map. Adapted from the Creative Making “Build Your Own Museum Scene” platform.

Proposed concept

Gondwanaland Light-Up Rainforest Kit

Layer translucent leaves, river shapes and animal silhouettes around a small light source to transform the rainforest from day to night. A family activity inspired by Gondwanaland's canopy, river journey and extraordinary biodiversity. Adapted from the “Light-Up Collection Scene Kit” platform.

Proposed concept

Pongoland Primate Research Station

Assemble a simple observation station, compare ape behaviours and record discoveries on reusable cards. The activity turns looking, sorting and pattern-finding into a child-friendly introduction to research. This is a Leipzig-specific proposal derived from the Creative Making scene-building approach.

Proposed concept

Feuerland Reef-of-Light Sun Catcher

Layer translucent colours into a hanging coastal and underwater scene featuring penguins, sea lions and seabirds. Light reveals the ecosystem as a whole, turning the finished object into a luminous reminder of the visit. Adapted from the Creative Making “Reef-of-Light Sun Catcher” platform.

Develop the Leipzig range

Wonders of Life x Zoo Leipzig · Proposed co-branded range

Made here. Remembered long after.

A co-branded range can make the partnership visible at every touchpoint: approved Zoo Leipzig animal imagery and theme-world references, the Wonders of Life creative-learning system, shared packaging and story cards, and a clear take-home connection to the visit. All logo, trademark, image and conservation claims remain subject to Zoo Leipzig approval.

Proposed concept

Wearable Wings — Zoo Leipzig Edition

Children create transparent wearable wings using approved butterfly or moth patterns connected to Zoo Leipzig's animal and habitat stories. The finished wings invite play, photography and display. Adapted from the Creative Making “Wearable Butterfly Wings DIY Kit”.

Proposed concept

Gondwanaland Botanical Collection

Build a three-dimensional leaf specimen inspired by rainforest plant shapes, veins and diversity. A co-branded field label records what the young maker noticed. Adapted from “Build Your Own Botanical Collection”.

Proposed concept

Animal Pattern Explorer Fan

A functional fan becomes a canvas for approved patterns drawn from feathers, scales, fur and tropical plants across the six worlds. The radial format makes comparison part of the design. Adapted from the Creative Making wearable and functional craft platform.

Proposed concept

Zoo Leipzig Shadow-Box Habitat

Families assemble foreground, middle-ground and background layers to recreate an approved Zoo Leipzig habitat, with co-branded packaging and a species story card. Adapted from the “Shadow Box Collection Art Kit”.

Create Your Own Discovery · Proposed bespoke service

A souvenir made in front of the visitor

Create Your Own Discovery is a proposed on-site personalisation experience. Visitors choose an approved Zoo Leipzig animal, habitat or expedition motif; add a name, initials or visit date; and watch a personalised keepsake take shape. Candidate outputs include pendants, specimen-style tags, wooden plaques and other formats validated for the selected equipment, audience and operating environment.

The Creative Making master list identifies the xTool P3 80W CO2 Laser Cutter and xTool MetalFab Laser Welder & CNC Cutter as reference systems for this service direction. A Bit of Art would first validate the safest production method, operator workflow, ventilation, guarding, materials, cycle time, localisation, staff training and compliance requirements. Neither machine is presented as approved for visitor-facing use or as equipment Zoo Leipzig must purchase.

01 · Choose

Select an approved animal, theme world or visit motif.

02 · Personalise

Add a name, initials or visit date within controlled design fields.

03 · Make

Produce the item through a staff-operated and safety-validated workflow.

04 · Discover

Take home a co-branded object with one species fact, one habitat connection and one positive action for nature.

Why this fits Zoo Leipzig

Designed around how visitors already explore.

  • Family behaviour is already active and hands-on: the zoo highlights tactile learning stations, quizzes, playgrounds and a rainforest boat journey.
  • The six theme worlds provide a natural collection structure, with distinctive animals, habitats and visual palettes for repeatable product stories.
  • Education, species conservation and research are central to Zoo Leipzig's published mission, making a learn-while-making format strategically aligned.
  • Discovery Days, birthdays, zoo-school programmes and established shop and voucher channels create several plausible occasions for retail and facilitated making.

A practical development pathway

From shared brief to reviewed prototype.

  1. Define — agree audience, use occasion, target price architecture, quantities, launch window, language and commercial goals.
  2. Create — confirm approved Zoo Leipzig animals, imagery, brand rules, educational messages and rights pathway; develop the visual system and concepts.
  3. Validate — review mock-ups, age grading, materials, safety, costs, margins, packaging, translations, production feasibility and on-site operating requirements.
  4. Deliver — progress approved samples into manufacturing, quality control, packaging, story cards, display guidance and launch content.

Partnership narrative

The strongest range will not be a generic animal assortment with a logo added at the end. It will begin with the visitor journey: the sensation of moving from savannah to rainforest, watching primates as a researcher might, meeting life underwater, and discovering why each habitat matters. Wonders of Life provides the making framework; Zoo Leipzig provides the animals, places and trusted learning context; A Bit of Art connects the two through product design, storytelling, sampling, sourcing and retail support.

A practical pilot would combine the four verified existing products with two Leipzig prototypes: the Six Worlds Discovery Scene Kit and Wearable Wings — Zoo Leipzig Edition. Review audience response, operating requirements and commercial fit before extending into the full co-branded collection or on-site personalisation experience. This is a proposal recommendation, not a forecast or a commitment to a particular quantity or launch date.

Build the first Leipzig prototype range

Start with two strong stories.

Begin with a focused working session to choose the priority visitor, two hero animal stories and the right pilot format. A Bit of Art can then turn the agreed direction into prototypes for buyer, education and brand review.
